The Weeknd

The mystery that is The Weeknd has possessed me for over a month now. Despite what appears to be a group title “The Weeknd” is a single man by the name of Abel Tesfaye, (with production assistance from Doc McKinneh, Illangelo, and Jeremy “Zodiac” Rose). His first foray into the public domain came with the unexpected leak of “House of Balloons.” This free for download EP is the first in an album based trilogy to be completed by years end. “Thursday” is the next digital download on the agenda, and its lastest internet single was debuted earlier this week, “The Birds (Part 1).”

“Echoes of Silence” is the title of the trilogies wrap up, and is slated for an autumn release. Speaking of the fall season Abel has found accompanying faith and artistry in October’s Very Own. On-staff-writer and Drake’s personal stylist, Oliver El-Khatib, has been following The Weeknd for several months now. This endorsement of a fellow Torontonian has led to The Weeknd being billed as an opener for this summer’s OVO extravaganza. Rick Ross has also been confirmed, and with Drake in charge you know the special guests will be endless. Tickets are already sold out, so if you don’t have yours yet be sure to get some serious scalper scratch together!

Festival and Drizzy connections aside The Weeknd is an artist destined for international recognition. All the pieces for such a fate are steadily falling into place. Beginning with that fact that House of Balloons is beyond exceptional. For the most part I daydream of my muse whilst listening to Drake’s latest broken hearted ballads. That said, Abel’s work is slipping into my playlist more and more as of late. Those painful northern emotions decorate every track he releases. Pride and prejudice lace every beat and vocal. I LOVE IT!

So to make a long story short… start listening to The Weeknd, it’s always better to start sooner than later. Because trust me… sooner or later you will.

Decent ventures here.  The beats are pretty advanced and the vocals are also not too bad.

Not really an newnew RnB fan though, even when they try something different.  Not sure why???

Fair enough. I can’t help it, I love this kid. There is no question he is going to supersede Toronto and gain worldwide fame. I’m very proud of all that he has accomplished. Three free albums planned in a year… genius. I’m interested to see of any of what he has in store catches yours or Shar’s ear.

Dude, I get it now. The first song in this post did it for me. I never understood his music before, but I really dig it now. Great piece. I like the background research you did on him and the OVO click. These guys collectively and individually have so much to offer, and I’m really excited to see what’s next in store. Brap!

The Weeknd is going to be huge! There is absolutely no question about it. Last night while watching the Season Finale of “Game of Thrones,” the trailer for Entourage Season 8 dropped… “High For This” was bumping and I lost my mind! He has come so far so quickly, I have no doubt the pace will not be slackening anytime soon.

I’m really trying to like this guy, and High For This is definitely the best track. But to me it just sounds like a really cheap Usher aha but it’s just because this isn’t my style. So now, I challenge you to find something I like Godfrey!

Wow, that will be hard if you don’t like this. However, I will make a serious attempt.
