Superbowl XLV

There is a saying that goes: “Success is a journey, not a destination.”

Truer words have never been spoken, especially when referring to the Superbowl.  As humans we tend to only remember the victorious end; rarely do we recall the path that was traveled.  In the beginning of the NFL season thirty-two teams prepared for battle.  After eighteen weeks only twelve teams emerged.  They earned the rite to advance to the NFL playoffs, and that was where the real war began.  Who could forget Marshawn Lynch breaking tackle after tackle to knock out the defending champs in an upset win?  Or when the New York Jets shocked the world by beating the odds-on favourite New England Patriots?  Or how about when the Steelers sacked quarterback after quarterback on their quest for the ring; and the Packers tossing TD after TD towards their pursuit for the same?

We’ve watched along with them, going through our own battle week after weak. The apex is approaching, the Vince Lombardi Trophy!  Our honour is found in being a part of this sacred ride; cheering on our favourite team(s) throughout their pursuit for glory.

Superbowl (XLV):  Next to Thanksgiving it is the largest day for food consumption in the United States of America!  The audience is so big in fact that advertisers pay upwards of $1 million US (and over $100,000 in Canada) for a single 30 second spot!  There is no doubt that the Superbowl is the biggest sports’ moment of the year!

This year the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers have traversed their way to the finals.  Both teams have a rich winning history, with Pittsburgh being the most recent victor of the pair.  Below is my prediction on the outcome:

Green Bay Packers Vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

It’s fair to say that this game could go either way.  Both teams are evenly matched.  One has an unstoppable offence, the other an immovable defence.  Experts are leaning toward the upstart Packers to take this one.  Unfortunately for Steelers supporters, I must agree.  First, Aaron Rodgers is the greatest quarterback alive.  Expect him to methodically pick apart the hobbled Steelers defence.  Second, the Packers receiving core is just too athletic for the Steelers secondary.  Third, Green Bay’s defence has stepped up big time during their playoff run.  This coupled with a Steelers offense that hasn’t looked consistently effective (they were shut out the entire second half versus the Jets) is bad news for Pittsburgh fans.  And lastly, I cannot stand the Steelers!  My team is their rival and Ben Roethlisberger makes me sick. Furthermore, every time I see Troy Polamalu’s hair I hope someone tears it out!

Prediction:  Packers by 4

All journeys come to an end.  I want to thank all those who came along with me for this one.  Raise those beer glasses up in celebration for another journey conquered and plenty more to come.  GO PACKERS!

This has been a great post season for American Football – The teams who have wanted and worked for it the most have certainly been crowned. Cant decide on who I want to win since I’m not a fan of either… I want both to win in some ways and lose in others. Looking forward to Sunday either way!!!

Thanks for reading and see you Sunday!

I agree with your take on the Packers. I am a Favre fan first when it comes to the NFL, so I’ll trace my lineage back to his roots this year when it comes to who I’m cheering for. More importantly, I’ve enjoyed your take on things more than anything else. History isn’t written by the victors, it’s written by the writers. With this series you’ve officially accomplished you’re first complete series, and gone down in history as one of the Sports writers that will be remembered for covering one of the greatest Playoff years the NFL has ever known. THANK YOU!

HaHa my boy! thanks man. It was really fun writing and it was even funnier watching and talking about these games. The NFL playoffs always deliver some crazy games, this year has been no exception.
Hopefully I’m sober enough to remember this years game.

No really, Superbowl is an epic time and I really can’t wait for it! My favorite part is getting friends together and enjoying the ups and downs of the game together. Though if “big Ben” (who dubbed him that??? ugh) were to get his leg broken on his first drive, THAT might be my favorite part of Superbowl.

That would be karmic for what they did to Palmer!

OH WOW too much in this one to complain about! I agree with Ben being a pervert. But can the man not lead a football team like no other? He isnt flashy, he doesnt put on a show, he gets the job done-wins football games. As much as you hate him you have to give credit to how he utilizes everything on the field.

As for Mr Head and SHoulders himself-easily one of the most athletic individuals in the NFL. Hands Down. Top 5 Safety in the league, as a Steelers fan I feel he is the best-but im sure there are some people who would disagree.

As for the game itself, I agree in the fact that its going to be a close one. Rodgers is a solid quarterback but I feel that no one can really call how his throwing game will match up against the Steelers Defense. The most aggressive offensive and defense- The Steelers and Packers are going to put on a show.

    I predict Steelers by 3

I will gladly absorb all the Steelers hate. GO STEELERS. and forget the Cheeseheads!

First, I never said that those two players werent at the tops of their fields. Ben is hands down a guy I’d love to lead my team down the field. The guy wins, plain and simple. As for Troy….BEST DEFENDER IN THE LEAGUE. Guy is a machien out there.

As I said, personally I can’t stand the guys though! Also, I think some of the Steelers elements have been inconsistent and the Pack are the type of team to really take advantage of the offensively and defensively.

Again, the Steelers are an amazing team, all they do is win. But that doesnt mean I gotta like it!

All the Steelers haters make me so much more of a fan! haha….like jonny said, great job on this NFL series!
