Stalley – Lincoln Way Nights

Before I say anything else, applause. Stalley continues to impress me with every new piece of art he releases. When I first discovered the Nas-inspired MC around this time last year, I was instantly endeared by not only his ability, but also his undeniable charm. Hollywood is a big, fat, disgusting pit of fabrication and anger. Hip-Hop is the same…. just 10x worse. For one artist to be so humbled, so appreciative and so honest, all whilst being so superior to their peers is more than I can fathom. Stalley sets an uplifting and positive example as an artist and more importantly as a person.

His first effort (released in early 2010) entitled The Autobiography; let us know exactly who he was as an artist.  His newest offering entitled Lincoln Way Nights helps to reveal who he is as a person, and what it means to be from Ohio. On songs like Slapp and Hard he soulfully articulates what an average night in his hometown is like. Before releasing this mixtape, he foretold fans that they could expect a description of the lifestyle in Masillon, all accompanied by epic and memorable beats. On all counts, he absolutely delivered.

Perhaps my favorite aspect of all of Stalley’s projects lay in his profound beat selection. I’m beyond sick of over-produced, heavily synthesized hip-hop beats that continuously blast through radio stations worldwide. Lincoln Way Nights offers a classy, creative and extremely inspiring alternative with its eclectic instrumental collection. This matched with his innate storytelling ability, makes for a very enjoyable listening experience.

If you like bass, soul samples, organic perspective and of course muscle cars, I highly suggest you give it a listen.

I LOVE THIS BLOG! @ChrisAndFame this is some seriously amazing review work. Amongst your best. Not since you covered Kanye’s MBDTF have you been so tight with your adjectives and precise with your approach. Now I don’t agree with you about Stalley, I’ve listened to a lot of his work (as he is DD172 family), but he hasn’t captured my attention yet. Nevertheless, I will continue to give him a chance as long as you keep pushing him as convincingly as you just did. GREAT WORK!!!

So good eh? I’m not sure how many tracks Ski touched, but either way, the production on this project is top notch. That’s the exact push Stalley needed too.
