“Skinny Jeans,” two words that make some swoon and others spit. When the return of slender denim occurred in early ‘08 I was not only skeptical, I was appalled. How dare the youth revive glam-rock’s mistakes!? Well it’s been two years, and not only am I calmer, my jeans are also slimmer.

Nevertheless, the debate over skinny jeans’ staying power remains, and I’m here to offer some insight. Having began on the offensive I can sympathize most with males 25-40. For some in this demographic skinny jeans are something we’ve moved on from, a part of societies past. This is true, but like life, fashion is cyclical. Skinny jeans are back whether anyone likes it or not, so instead of being frustrated over how this happened it’s better to ask why it’s so.

Why are skinny jeans back? What, besides the fact they’re highlighting and hip? Seriously, the reason they are back is because designers/owners have not only re-added an item to their closet, they’ve found new ways to wear them. One of the most obvious accents for skinny jeans is shoes. For women this style of denim aids all forms of footwear; stilettos, flats, and high-top boots are just a few examples of shoes that work well with well-fitting jeans.

For men this truth is equally evident. Retro sneakers, boat shoes, and wing-tips all look better with a more feature friendly slacks. Furthermore, skinny jeans force the shopper to really look in the mirror and consider their purchase. Too often I’ve found myself buying something off the rack before considering its benefits around my waist. No longer! Skinny jeans, no matter how long they stay around this cycle, have reminded me about what fashion is: fashion is accessorizing your best self!

It’s funny, because about 3 years before skinny jeans got popular, I wanted them. I searched everywhere, to the extent of even trying female denim on! However once they truly became mainstream, I felt a shift back to something a little more relaxed (still slim-er). In the next 5 years, I predict that we expect a more grungesque take on denim, with looser cuts and more faded finishes.

Yes, I too feel the grunge look is on the rise. However, I hope it is approached with a little more sense this time around. In the meantime if ya wanna get me an Xmas present scam me that center pair of Dior Denim…. SLIIIIIIME!!! HAHAHAHAHA :)

I’ve never owned a pair of “true skinny jeans” and as a kid I hated them. I remember getting almost violent when my mom would take me shopping and force me to buy jeans that I deemed “too tight”, I’m with Chris now though. My jeans seem to be getting a little “slimmer” – Now I just have to work on my stomach!

As stated by Brian, Skinny jeans were never my thing, although I’m so old I used to tapper my jeans with a pin when I was a kid!

I like the relaxed look myself these days. Some extra room but not baggy. Also like my jean to go over my shoe, but that’s just me!

I wear tight enough costumes when I swing across the city as Spider-Man anyways.

I love me some skinny jeans !! …. I feel like this denim best accentuates some of most important features on the female boooty .. i mean body ..
Don’t get me wrong they are not made for all. But once you find that perfect fit ..its magical !

I have always appreciated a nice slim fit denim on my boys.. I find this fit to be most appealing.
    …. but not tooo tight.

I was also skeptical to wear skinny jeans at first because I think it looks so uncomfortable to wear but now I like my skinny jeans because it makes me feel sexy. I adore black skinny jeans. I would like to share this fashion idea on lifo.com, social network for girls where they are allowed to share their views about beauty, fashion and celebrity gossip.
