Mumford & Sons

I’ve always been an old soul. Reflection, deep thought and nostalgia have been things I’ve taken great pleasure in enjoying over the course of my young life. For someone completely submerged in the relentless throws of contemporary pop-culture, I find solace in music that brings my true emotions to the forefront of my focus. Often times, this can be found in the likes of Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison, Cat Stevens, Bruce Springsteen etc. However as of late, I have turned my attention to a new folk band out of England – Mumford & Sons.

It isn’t often that I connect with the context and vision in which new rock music is written, but these gentlemen (in my humble opinion) have made it possible. All of the music off of their highly acclaimed debut Sigh No More seems to speak to me quite directly.

Throughout the entire album there are strong themes of honesty, admittance and nostalgia. In songs like The Cave, the lyrics discuss overcoming hardships, moving past mistakes and learning strength through suffering. All topics that (in my current situation) I am experiencing.

Earning 2 Grammy nods this year for Best Rock Song and Best New Artist, Marcus Mumford and the boys are off to a wonderful start in what is only the beginning of a predictably long and utterly inspirational career.

What an awesome group! So glad you wrote about them, and you certainly did their talent justice. When I first heard Little Lion Man more than a year ago, I wasn’t too fond of it. But that made it all the more sweet when I learned to love their sound.
