MCYYZ XVIII: New Year, Fresh Fashion

2011 was an insane year. Crippled by anxiety I escaped into Dreamland endlessly. Writing series like My Life at the Movies & The Love Blog helped me deal with my issues. However, when I was at my worst I created something new to patch up the pain. Mic Check YYZ, or MCYYZ as I now call it, is where I relay my passion for Hip Hop and Toronto. Its imagery typically reflects my favorite aspects of the city, while its words speak of my current muses in music and fashion.

I plan to continuously build on this brand. It is a catharsis beyond words. And considering I’m beginning 2012 on a better foot it’s time to step forward.

Ransom Holding Co.: Birthed in 2002 Ransom has grown from a Toronto based boutique to a brand recognized the world round. Proud to be Canadian they continue to make quality goods with Adidas. They’ve additionally ventured out to craft items with companies Stussy & Shwood Eyewear. Their flagship store is located at 431 Richmond St. However, items can be found in shops the city wide. Their current collection can be viewed creatively below.

New Era: Toronto Flagship Store: In 2007 Toronto was blessed to house an official New Era store. Unlike its predecessors the YYZ locale was designed utilizing a contemporary steel structure. Larger than its American predecessors it stands 4 stories with 3000 square feet of sales space. Furthermore, 50% of the merchandise available therein is exclusive to the store. From official MLB and NBA hats to a vast array of collectors caps it is an unquestionable godsend to the cityscape. Located at 202 Queen Street West it’s a Mecca for 59Fifty fanatics North of the border.

Proper Reserve: Further West on Queen there is an exciting new streetwear shop called Proper Reserve. This two-story urban outlet houses beloved brands like SullyWong and Mishka, as well as high end video game accessories from Gunnar Optiks and Astro Gaming. In addition to having a keen eye for foreign goods they also are home to several Toronto based brands. From Nuestro’s stylish carrying cases to Jimmy Chiale’s Esceny apparel there is a plethora to be purchased here. For the hesitant few let it be known that they also sell a selection of dead stock snap backs. It’s where any urban ninja can get new threads. Wax on Daniel-San.

Amazing piece. Probably the best of the series so far. I LOVE LOVE LOVED that epk for Ransom/Adidas. Unreal marketing and concept. I would love for us to do something like that for Dreamland. So dope. As for New Era, many a trips together, and many more to come. That spot is a staple for sure. I’m really pumped to hear that Nuestro got his shit on and poppin in Proper Reserve. I can’t believe that Cyhi is actually rocking one! Too dope. Great job, slime!

This was a research heavy piece. All of the names herein have been on my radar for so long but I didn’t know how to discuss them. This concept came to mind quickly but was hard to craft. I figured after all the music I needed something fashion heavy. These are examples for us, and experiences we share. I agree, Nuestro is doing awesome. He has another iPhone case out I want… but you know I really want that holster. LOL!
