JAPANime 2

My Life at the Movies most read blog of 2011 was a piece titled, “JAPANime.” Realizing the attention it garnered I made it a point to provide more animated coverage in 2012. However, I didn’t realize the results would be this instant. Thanks to Funimation’s efforts to bring Anime westward I was blessed to see another title on the big screen. This time around it was Fullmetal Alchemist and its second feature film, “The Sacred Star of Milos.” Like Evangelion last year it was a nerd filled extravaganza, (and I admit proudly that I am one).

That said this outing was different. I’ve been aware of Fullmetal Alchemist for years, but never before entertained its visual narrative. The Elric brothers are an interesting bunch, with a past and purpose possessed with intrigue. Though the art that animates them isn’t first rate, it’s nevertheless awesome to enter their alchemical world. The jargon, like most anime, is a hodge-podge of Western philosophy sifted through Eastern sentiments. The concepts it creates out of this wide-world of learning are captivating. Human Transmutation, Automail, and the doorway of truth are all titillating ideas. In addition, the end of this chapter leaves you wanting more.

In fact I’ve wanted more Anime for awhile now. With more releases always on the horizon I have some homemade experiences to engage in until then. For starters I plan to revisit one of my favorite series, “The Vision of Escaflowne.” I own it in its entirety and I’m due for another journey through Atlantis. Also I’d like to find, purchase, and peruse the classic show Saint Seiya. Like Fullmetal Alchemist and every odd title mentioned herein, it is an eye-opening amalgamation of the ancient and extraordinary. Amidst this barrage I hope my brother John and fans of this blog will bring suggestions of their own.

Thus, if there is any Anime you’d like to recommend please feel free to do so in the comments section below. I cannot promise I’ll watch it, but sell me sweetly and it’ll be hard not to. Here’s to a great start to 2012! Here’s to My Life at the Movies!
