Inspiration: Dame Dash

For most hip-hop fans, Dame Dash is a very familiar name. He is, and always will be one of the main reasons Jay-Z reached the level of success that you see today. In the early-to-mid 90′s Dame, Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke started Roc-A-fella Records, which (in it’s day) was the most popular Hip-hop label in the industry. Many lucrative business ventures came from Roc-A-Fella; clothing lines, liquor lines, night clubs etc. At the height of it’s popularity and success, the empire that these three men built was unstoppable. However, like everything in life… it ended. Jay-Z and Dame parted ways. Roc-a-fella as fans knew it, was over. Jay-Z went on to sell more and more albums, sell out stadiums and grow his personal empire. Dame however, took a few steps back. From 2005 to about 8 months ago, Dame Dash was a ghost in mainstream media. After going through a divorce with his ex-wife Rachel Roy, losing money through failed business ventures and generally experiencing bad luck – a lot of fans thought it was over for the one-time mogul. They could not have been more wrong.

These days, Dame is a completely different guy. Laid back, chilled out and care free. After growing tired of everything that comes with mainstream hip-hop, Dame has started something very different. In the last year he has:

- Started his own art gallery

- Started his own independent record label

- Worked with an eclectic and diverse collection of artists (musical, visual, spiritual)

- Sparked a new way of doing business in the music industry

- Regained the respect of many of his peers

Dame Dash is not the most liked guy in the music industry, but he is changing his ways, and doing some truly inspiring things. I urge you to check out his website/online community at:
