Info The Astronaut – Dreams & Nightmares

What more can I say about an artist that has come this far? Experimentation. Dedication. Perseverance. Acceptance. Trial. Retrial. Admittance. Frustration. Relief. All of these adjectives would certainly describe what this man has gone through in the process of making Dreams & Nightmares.

Info The Astronaut is not just a guy who owns a microphone and happens to know how to use it. He is an artist in the most true and uninhibited sense. The unfathomable creative process that goes into his unique artistry is the driving force in his continued musical diversity. Anyone can make a rap song these days. It doesn’t take the next Jay-Z to sound passable over a generic hip-hop beat. Info and his brilliant mind take things to the next level.

Singing: Have you ever heard R&B and Rap from the same artist on the same song? Of course you have. You haven’t heard this before. Info has his own unique style of singing, perfectly suited to any indie-esque hit, that for some reason works on a hip-hop record. This is displayed throughout the album and remains one of my favorite aspects.

Rapping: It’s safe to say I’m an expert in Rap. I have listened to all different types of vocal delivery, lyrical content and creative word-play. There has never been one artist that I could list who has influenced Info’s style. From his flow to his writing, I can confidently say that he is completely original. Every song on this album was well thought out lyrically and uniquely delivered vocally.

Beats: It is insanely easy to lay down a basic drum pattern, insert a run-of-the-mill, sped up soul sample from the 70′s and call it a record. You don’t have to be Just Blaze or Kanye West to do so. This was not the case on D&N.  The instrumentals throughout (all originals) were beyond inspiring. Simplistic yet polished. Understated yet catchy.

Mixing and Mastering: As an aspiring producer/rapper myself, I have (for years) been trying to do what Info effortlessly accomplishes on this album: Perfect Mixing. I listen to “professionally” mixed “studio quality” albums all the time that do not hold a candle to any of the 13 gems on D&N. The vocals are crisp and audible, the beats are deep and rich, the effects are clean as a whistle! You can have the talent of 1000 artists, but unless your records are mixed properly, people won’t want to listen. Trust me when I say this; people will want to listen to this.

Can’t to start spinning this today. I also appreciate the take in advance of the listen as it not only promotes me to get to it faster, but also inspires me on what I should look for and digest. I know I will find my own inspiration from the album thereafter, and I appreciate Adam for bringing us another collection of his work. Much love Slime! We all gotta chill soon.
