Hobo With A Shotgun

Everybody likes B-Movies, the problem is we don’t know what a “B-Movie” is until someone else points it out. For Example, countless women lovingly reminisce over “The Last Unicorn,” and numerous men preach “The Good, The Bad, The Ugly” as a certified A-List Western. Without question both films are great films. However, neither are the mainstream gems both sexes believe them to be.

It never ceases to amaze me how many movie titles I bark about that people have never heard of. Having grown up in the mansions of my mind it has taken me much of my twenties to learn the following truth: not everything I love is as loved by all. I’m sure that everyone can say the same, and that reality is always off-putting.

My favorite cinematic genre is easily Science Fiction. Thus, it’s weird to me that other people haven’t watched films like: Logan’s Run; Soylent Green; Beneath The Planet of The Apes; and The Blood of Heroes. Speaking of the last in line The Blood of Heroes is a great post-apocalyptic sports movie every fan of Thunder Dome should see! It stars Rutger Hauer, Blade Runners cryptic antagonist and the star of today’s feature film.

Hobo With a Shotgun! The passion project of fellow Canadian Jason Eisener. Yesterday Jason, his crew, John, myself and a jam packed theater of eager movie goers attended a Hobo pre-screening. Twitter was again our premiere invitation. John won tickets via a Rue Morgue contest, and I was blessed to be the plus one!

What began as a Grindhouse contest winner has now become a feature length film bound to give joy-gasms to fanboys nationwide. As usual I have no desire to ruin a film’s storyline, so let me instead discuss the extra-curricular elements.

First, Eisener must be applauded for his passion. He wanted to film it in his home-town, and he did. He wanted the opportunity to work with friends, so he brought them on board. And he labored for three years to raise money, film, and keep his sensitive Catholic mother away from his disturbing “Last Supper” scene! Second, I have to salute Gregory Smith & Nick Bateman for portraying a brotherhood so sinister I enjoyed hating them! Lastly, I have to promote the fact this film comes with a blog. Check it out [HERE] and learn more about intriguing elements like The Plague.

This film though a B movie was certified A-list entertainment. You see “B” doesn’t have to mean “Bad.” B can mean “Brilliant” if you let it. Soon it’ll mean “Buy” when it comes out on Blu-Ray, because this was an amazing addition to my life at the movies.

I’m so glad I won tickets to this beast of a film. This will literally go down as one of my fav films ever. That said, a lot of folks wax skillz off how they love GRONDHOUSE type flicks, yet when I looked around the theatre when this was happening and people were HORRIFIED! LMAO it was amazing!
Not sure if people thought this would be a walk in central park but it was the bloodiest movie Ive seen in decades!
    SO GOOD!

It really was one of the bloodiest movies I’ve ever seen as well, and I was glad to have gone with you. In addition, I like you, will definitely be buying this on Blu-Ray! The chance to support a Canadian talent like this is something I can’t pass up.

Speaking of bloody films I think I might do a “Fist of the North Star” blog tonight ;) Only time will tell.

I’ve got so many films to watch with you stacked up: Akira, Shinobi, Dark City, and Ninja Scroll to name a few. I’d rather save the Blu-Rays for the Sony then the Downloads. I also got The Adventures of Baron Munchausen yesterday… and we still gotta see Highlander as well!

Baron M I literally watch 2-3 weeks ago. Here’s one for you…Fearless Vampire Killers by Roman Polansky. It’s an AMAZING movie! Plus poor Sharon Tate is in that.

  • Chris Elliott

@mrletmeknow That guy scares the shit out of me. Wierd as hell. Creepy as fuck. Although, it actually looks pretty cool. Might have to be #twisted though.

You have to be REALLY twisted to like this… sadly, I am kind of a sick person so I enjoyed it. It’s great over-the-top artistic violence. BUCKETS OF BLOOD!!!
