Hermione Granger: a master of potions; articulate with her spells; and an all around encyclopedia of knowledge – The destined prefect of the honored house – the fictitious embodiment of the adorable geek! The fact that she is played by Emma Watson definitely helps, but she remains an exemplary archetype despite this obvious advantage.

In high-school, at Western, and ever since I graduated I’ve had a thing for the “geek.” On the prowl for a real-life Rachael Leigh Cook, I’ve always wanted a girl who’s all that in a pair of glasses.

You know, that girl who in tenth grade science glass was stylishly smart? The teachers pet who despite her looks earned rank with wit; who attended study-hall and excelled at exams; that paid attention in class and wore her school colors with pride?

Sure, these multi-lingual bookworms are hard to find. Furthermore, winning a beautiful-spelling-bee-champ is seemingly impossible. At least it always seemed impossible for a guy like me. Yes I’m smart. I read a lot, and almost write the same. I graduated from a respected university, and my discipline was time honored. However, I’m no practitioner of the dueling degrees, (i.e. law and medicine); I’m just an artsy academic who talks a good game.

Sometimes I feel like I’m nothing more than a Weasley – just another white-boy with a dream – a simple-minded kid with an epic vision. Sometimes I feel like these dreams will never get me anywhere, and sometimes these dreams come true.

Like Halley’s Comet a beautiful-geek only comes around once in a lifetime. If you get the chance to talk to one, ask her what she thinks. If you ever fool her into falling for you… never let her go! It took Ronald Weasley 7 books and 7 years to win over Hermione Granger, and let me tell you, it was worth every page.

I prefer the business woman with her head on her shoulders and her eyes on the prize and not a head stuck in a book. That’s why I married one!

It’s not really about Emma Watson… I’m just utilizing her as an example :)
