Drake – Headlines

With the conscious intent of not over-flooding his fans with an onslaught of meaningless drivel, Drake rarely releases new music. He does this for a very important reason: Too much music = dilution of quality. Perhaps he’s taken this rule to the extreme, however good things come to those who wait. In the case of Dreams Money Can Buy, Marvins Room and Headlines, the wait was definitely worth it.

Headlines is (according to Drake himself) not the best song on his forthcoming sophomore album Take Care. However, it is the most appropriate song for the time being. Throughout this lifestyle infused track, his descriptions depicting life changes and goals are clear yet vague.  Without divulging too much of his personal life, he explains to fans his ongoing division of pressure and pleasure within Rap’s spotlight.

Sonically, Headlines is similar to his past works, but also very different. Produced by Toronto’s own Boi 1da Headlines accurately depicts Drake’s current situation musically, emotionally and socially. With a simple drum pattern, and practically no bass, the heavily synthesized beat manages to deliver the same intensity, if not more than his other hits.

Sophomore albums are always highly scrutinized (especially following strong debut albums), although with 3 amazing tracks released, Drake and OVO team are leaving absolutely no room for negative criticism. It might be early to say, but is sounds as though his fans will be receiving a very groundbreaking body of music on October 24th.

Drizzy got the money, So Drizzy gon’ pay it. Those my brothers I ain’t even gotta say it, That’s just somethin’ they know.

I would only disagree that too much music equates to dilution of quality. 2-Pac and Weezy seem to have overcome that hurdle. Drake has a different music model and style no doubt, and one I enjoy. Great take on the track, and thanks for the download link!

Hey it’s a new Drake track (other than I’m On One) that I love!

He kills this, this is the Drake flow I like.  Verses mixxed with a tinge of sing-song.  So good!  He rides the beat well.

Agreed. This is the exact type of jawn I’ve been waiting for from him. It’s dope shit. I can’t WAIT for Take Care.
