Debate: Ego

This is an issue that controls the world

It’s the reason that you broke up with your girl

A false happiness, delusion of conclusion

It’s here to ruin happy moments

The producer of opponents

The host of insecurity has people moving nervously

The apparatus of status, aggravation and madness

Operator of fascists, motivator of haters

Minors feel major, like Giants and Lions

It’s a stylist that has people acting the wildest

They become rabid ridden animals and cannibals

Childish tendencies, volatile recipes for hate

It never congratulates

It just acts mean and demeans

Ego is the demise of human beings

Have you ever felt tension from someone as the result of nothing in particular? We’ve all been in this situation… You are introduced to someone new (usually of the same sex) and instantaneously there is an undertone of competition in body language and conversation. You make a conscious effort to be polite, cordial and pleasant, yet you do not feel the same warmth from this person. On the flip side, have you ever felt slighted when introduced to a stranger? Has your quickly dismissed introduction left you with feelings of discouragement and intimidation? Two words can be used to describe these situations. Insecurity and ego.

It’s a damn shame that people have to saunter through life with this haunting cloud of insecurity, but they do. Everywhere. Although unspoken and rightfully misunderstood, ego is present within people of all ages and walks of life. Perhaps at one point or another, we are all slightly guilty of imposing our egos on someone else. The crucial separation from this act of innocence and the senseless behavior of others, is the fact that these people allow ego to define and control them.

When people start to achieve and accomplish their goals, they begin to change their outlook and become accustomed to the rewards of their hard work. This then perpetuates into a closed-minded outlook toward many others. They cannot justify associating with those who have not achieved the same level of success, and fail to appreciate other’s positive attributes. On the contrary, when surrounded by those on equal or higher levels of success and social status, they slip into a state of insecurity, thus birthing competition.

In our society it is beyond difficult to remain humble and gratuitous towards others all the time. However, as people it is our duty to attempt it. Instead of allowing our insecurities to control us, we should appreciate the positive qualities that define us as people. Ego breaks up relationships; it ruins friendships, destroys businesses and leaves everyone constantly second-guessing themselves. It’s ugly. It’s weak. It’s selfish. It’s destructive.

Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.

Question: How has someone else’s ego negatively affected you?

How has your ego negatively affected someone else?

Dude… I know you won’t agree with me, but I have the worst ego ever! It’s hurt my relationships with everyone I know. The issue I find is that I never notice I am being egotistical. Ego isn’t always being a dick outright, sometimes it’s failing to see that others see you as such, even it is not justified. I wish I were a better person, I wish I could hold a relationship together, I wish I wasn’t always so destructive. I’m trying though, I feel most people are, and I believe that my desire to be better will help people forgive me when I fail to be such.

It’s something that we ALL have to work on man. You aren’t the only one. Trust me. I have my issues with ego as well. It’s hard to to pinpoint what triggers it, but we must all give an effort to correct it when it does.

“I’m never wrong about fashion… Ever!” ahaha It’s to true man, gotta keep humble. We’re all guilty of letting our egos get out of hand. Great piece!

I fee you man, I got a giant ass ego and it gets bigger by the second. I feed it insecurity! Great blog and it hits home, had a recent example of how a group of friends can let ego get in the way of something good. Keep doing these man, love them!
