Common – Blue Sky

I’ve said it many times before, and I will gladly say it again: Common Sense is one of my generation’s saviors. Somehow, amidst all of the Swag, Snapbacks and Syrup there lies a few rare examples of depth and intelligence in Hip-Hop. Thank God for Common. Thank God for his timeless message and lyrical genius. Every time I feel like there is no hope for mainstream music, no hope for our youth, I hear new material that this man so effortlessly releases to the masses and for a while, I breath easy.

His forthcoming album appropriately entitled The Dreamer, The Believer has already experienced a vast amount of critical anticipation. The gritty teaser single Ghetto Dreams featuring his old friend Nas, gave fans a taste of his hunger and re-dedication to the craft. Now, with a more polished and uplifting feel his newest single Blue Sky showcases the positivity and clarity he is best known for.

The song (produced by NO I.D) acts as a commentary to Common’s triumphs, blessings and lessons in life.  Over the past 5 years, he has come so far as an artist, activist and actor. The direction of his lyrics depict his thankfulness for all of these things. He’s proud and he has every reason to be. The example that this man sets is something we should all pay attention to.

If you’re a fan of positivity, good hip-hop and quality production, listen to this song.
