Californication – Season 4 Preview

Californication Season 4 – Sunday 10pm – The Movie Network

Fucking & Punching?!?  I admit that I can get a little squirrely in the bedroom, but no, this isn’t my idea of a fun Friday night.  However, it’s definitely my idea of an enjoyable Sunday night!  That’s because this Sunday evening everyone’s favorite douchebag, Hank Moody, returns for the fourth season of Californication!

For people not familiar with the series Californication is Showtime’s hip and heavy comedy-drama. The protagonist, Hank Moody (David Duchovny), is a troubled novelist whose move to California, coupled with his writer’s block, complicates his relationships with his long-time girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone) and daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin). The show also stars characters Charlie Runkle (Evan Handler of Sex & the City fame) as Hank’s agent; Marcy Runkle (Pamela Adlon) as Charlie’s wife; and Mia Cross (Madeline Zima) as the girl who starts all the trouble. The show has been nominated for and won several awards, including an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.

For fans of the series think back to how season three ended:

Karen and Becca know that Hank slept with Mia.  Following his confrontation with Karen, Hank slugs a police officer and is subsequently carted off to jail.  That’s the bad news. The good news is “Fucking & Punching” is back in Hank’s hands!  In season four Hank is out of jail and the aforementioned book is being made into a major motion picture. (Look for Rob Lowe to guest star as an actor hoping to play Hank in said film).  Even though major plot points are shrouded in secrecy we do know that Hank will be on a road to redemption.

The creator of Californication (Tom Kapinos) has done an outstanding job of keeping this seemingly one-trick pony relevant.  The series may be crass, lewd and insufferable but the characters, (particularly Charlie and his wife Marcy) are written so well that you can’t help but care for them. Worst case scenario stay tuned to see over the top nudity, sex and coarse language!

I will be updating the series’ performance throughout the season so stay tuned folks and thanks for reading.

I love Californication, and have since it premiered. I’ll definitely be watching tonight thanks to my TMN subscription, but before then I got a few things to say… First, thank you for the rundown and rehashing. Again, the show ends like it is “thee end” but we are about to return to see how it will continue. Like you said, “The creator of Californication (Tom Kapinos) has done an outstanding job of keeping this seemingly one-trick pony relevant,” and I agree with that sentiment 100%. Besides his overactive libido, I can relate to Hank’s brooding ways. Him and his love for a woman he can never have is something I live with everyday. Can’t wait for tonight!!!

Thanks for reading again playa! Show has done a great job on keeping it going and can’t wait for season 4. I’m going to give a mid-season and final report card on this season!

Easily one of my favorite shows. I resonate with Hank Moody like no other character on T.V. The characterization in this show is world class. I am so glad you dig this show too! Great write-up!

I absolutely can’t wait for this – I so love this show. Its delicious and I dont know how they’ve managed to keep it entertaining. Maybe its because we still can’t get over the fact Mulder is finally having sex. Who knows! But I’ll be watching thats for sure…
