Bread & Roses

On my never-ending quest for memorable cuisine, I have had the pleasure of discovering another of Toronto’s finest culinary treasures. Bread & Roses (located in the trendy Bloor West Village) has impressed me more than words can say.

After a night of intoxication in which an onslaught of poisons filled my body, I was pleased to accept my friend Jon’s suggestion for some recovery in the form of breakfast. Now, when most people are faced with a daunting hangover, their immediate conclusion is to bring on the grease. My normal routine is no exception to this. That being said, a healthy selection of food is often just as cleansing.

Now, Bread & Roses is no vegan-based-ultra-health-den, where all of the food is green and tasteless. It is however, very fresh. With a seemingly endless array of pastries, breads, bagels, muffins, meats, treats and other appetizing dishes, there is a lot to chose from. I ended up going with a thick cut roast beef sandwich on Egg bread, accompanied by Dijon mustard and swizz cheese. Washed down with citrus San Pellegrino and Spring water, this was the perfect way to start what I thought would be a very painful morning.

When it comes to any culinary based establishment, the food is always only part of the equation. A big factor that plays into the enjoyment brought on by a restaurant is the service. I can honestly say, that out of any fast-food style eatery in the city, I have never had kinder, more effecient service than that of Bread & Roses.

I will be returning for great sandwhiches and warm smiles very soon. I suggest you do the same!

So glad you dug it! They are a staple in my neighborhood and every other spot plays second fiddle. Being able to make a sandwich on any home-baked bread of your choosing always gets me going back. Plus, for Thanksgiving they sell their famous Pumpkin Pies on the street…. and they go fast! Happy you enjoyed it fam… SLIIIIME!!!
