Admirals Poutine

In high-school I’d spend my lunches clogging every artery with poutine. I would literally eat 5 servings a week; and not small portions either. During the course of this gluttonous parade of cheese, fries and gravy, I developed a bit of an addiction for the French delicousy. From that time forward I began trying numerous types at various locations. I went through the basics (New York Fries, KFC, Harvey’s) and none of them really impressed me. It wasn’t until October of 2008, when I started visiting my ex-girlfriend in Brantford, that I stumbled upon the most heavenly recipe.

If you’ve been to Brantford, passed through, partied, or ever knew someone who did, you have heard of “Admirals.” This hole-in-the-wall-grease-pit of a restaurant produces some of the best fast food I’ve ever had. Burgers, chicken wings, Onion rings, fries and of course, their claim to fame: Poutine.

When you order a poutine from Admirals you almost always receive a stern warning about the size. For $8.00 you obtain a serving of Poutine the size of your (adult sized) head… Literally! It weighs about 2 or 3 pounds, and the strength required to pull it off the counter is a feat in-of-itself.

Once you arrive at your table (or wherever you plan on consuming these celestial slices), and you open up the box, you will be undeniably speechless. The rich gravy accompanied by savory curd cheese is smothered over fresh cut fries in a flawless mixture. You in no way will feel let down if you give this heart-attack-in-a-box a chance. Throw away your calorie counter for an afternoon, take a friend, and go to Admirals. It is without question worth the drive.

Use to live in Brampton, but never been. Not a big Poutine fan, but today I did go to a place that had bocconcini poutine, and I was tempted.
